Opened in 1972 by Gay Alvarez, The
Lemon Fair is a gallery/gift shop specializing in handmade, unusual, and magical gifts and treasures. The Sewanee Angels floated
into the store soon after. Children riding to school on the winding and twisting road down the mountain needed their angel
to stay with them while they were away from Sewanee. Upon their arrival back on the mountain, they would hang their angel
to rest, now relieved of duty.
This was such a charming notion, I decided to provide fun and unusual angels in
what was then the only store in Sewanee. Who would have guessed such whimsey would become a traditional part of Sewanee!
THE LEMON FAIR is the home of the Sewanee Angel and is the sole supplier of the "Sewanee Angel Legend" and
other unique Sewanee items!

Lemon Fair Love Letters "Dear Gay,
I received the angel pin today in the mail
and it's perfect! A friend of mine graduated from Sewanee 30 years ago, moved on, married and divorced. She is now
going to marry her college sweet heart whom she met at Sewanee. I know she will be just blown away by the little angel
adorning her wedding gift. Thank you so much for your prompt service. I am sure I will order from you again having
had a child and many many of her closest friends graduate from Sewanee. You have unique gifts that they all love. Thank
you again," Julie
"The Lemon Fair is my favorite stop on Dec. 24... solutions for that last minute gift! It is
the place to visit with other last minute shoppers." Margaret
"Do you know that I used to think the Lemon Fair was
magic? Every time we came to visit Uncle Laurence and Aunt Gay, there seemed to always be a Lemon Fair visit, and
there's no store quite like it in Valdosta, indeed, perhaps anywhere else. My earliest memories of the Lemon Fair
are of chimes and bright colors combined with angel motifs, so it's no wonder really that I believed Mom's stories of
the Sewanee Angel. If it's not too romantic and cliched to say, I probably still do." Marie
"thank you so much.
i got them (Angel Cards ) today! that was incredibly fast!" Manry
"I worked
for Gay at the Lemon Fair right after I graduated from Sewanee. What a wonderful job!" Chris
"My "Sewanee
Angel" sticker that's been on the back of my '97 Honda Civic since .. well, 1997 ... is showing LOTS of wear and
tear from the Texas sun...I was wondering how/if I could get another one -- I need to show my Sewanee Spirit!" Anne
"Hi

"Years ago when Gay was visiting Vermont she read about the
Lemon Fair River and wallah the name was born! The Lemon Fair is a wonderland of creativity and enchantment. It
is a place to find a gift for a friend, a wonderful wedding present with beautiful wrapping Make sure you visit
the Lemon Fair or in case you can't go there...a place to call and order your gifts." jdb
